Albany St. Patrick’s Day Parade Organizers Donate $5,000
to NENY Regional Food Bank
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Albany (April 30, 2020) - The United Irish Societies of the Capital District (UISCD) and its Albany St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee today presented the Northeastern New York Regional Food Bank with a donation of $5,000.
“Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we understand the tremendous need for food supplies in our community. With schools closed and job disruptions, families are struggling to make ends meet now more than ever, and we want to do our part to ensure the most vulnerable members of our community are served. Given the Albany St. Patrick’s Day Parade was cancelled this year in response to COVID-19, we agreed to significantly increase our annual donation to $5,000, at a time when it is needed most.”
“The UISCD’s on-going commitment to feed the hungry is deeply rooted in Ireland’s ‘Great Hunger’ that brought so many of our ancestors to America. We are proud to support the work of our friends at NENY Regional Food Bank and our donation is in honor of all of those who work to fight hunger every day. Additionally, we are thrilled to have the continued support of our major sponsors M&T Bank and CDPHP,” said Tim Carey, President of the United Irish Societies of the Capital District.
With its donation, the UISCD has requested the NENY Regional Food Bank to support the at-large needs of the region as well as specific food pantries, including:
· Blessed Sacrament Food Pantry
· Sacred Heart Outreach
· St. Vincent DePaul
Immaculate Heart of Mary Food Pantry.
